Seniors invited to free energy saving seminars at City Hall

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is inviting Brisbane seniors to attend a series of free CSRIO EnergySavers seminars at City Hall to help seniors find new ways to reduce their energy use and costs.

The Lord Mayor said approximately 500 seniors were expected to take part in the EnergySavers seminars as part of Council’s Green Heart Wisdom program.

“Green Heart Wisdom is an innovative program offered by Council to help seniors reduce their electricity use at home and manage their power bills,” Cr Quirk said.

“Free EnergySavers seminars are starting at City Hall on 14 August as well as in libraries at Chermside, Wynnum, Kenmore and Sunnybank Hills between July and November.

“The seminars run in a series of four and are a great way to learn from energy experts in a friendly and welcoming environment.”

Residents who are over 60, hold a current Pensioner Concession Card and own or are paying off their home with its own electricity meter, are eligible to attend.

Cr Quirk said seniors could register to attend as an individual or as a social group via Council’s website.

“Many seniors are already conscientious about reducing energy use and these seminars will build on that knowledge to support seniors to stay healthier and more comfortable in their homes for longer,” he said.

“The seminars, developed by CSRIO, enable participants to share their experiences and tips for saving energy around the home, and also learn from others in a friendly, group environment.

“Green Heart Wisdom is another great program Council has on offer to make Brisbane a cleaner, greener city.”

The Green Heart Wisdom project received $2.9 million in funding from the Department of Industry as part of the Low Income Energy Efficiency Program.
