Residents are being invited to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Royal Queensland Show by taking a step back in time at Council’s Ekka stand, until 20 August.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said visitors would be able to create new memories in a free photo booth, take a virtual trip back in time and hear some of Brisbane’s standout live music talent.
“Council’s Ekka stall will this year uncover Brisbane’s cultural heritage, arts and languages, by taking visitors on a walk through time with our Virtual Songlines virtual reality headset,” Cr Quirk said.
“The stand will also feature a photo booth with some of Brisbane’s most iconic backdrops and a special image wall showcasing the finalists for the People’s Choice category in the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.
“Voting for the $1,000 People’s Choice Award is open until Sunday 20 August and I encourage everyone to take a look at the high-quality entries and vote for their favourite.
“These photographic awards are a celebration of Brisbane’s photographic talent with great opportunities for local and emerging photographers to be recognised as part of our vibrant and creative city.
“Brisbane is bursting with creativity and we’ll also be supporting our city’s live music scene with performances from eight finalists from The QUBE Effect and the Plaza Music Stage.”
Cr Quirk said visitors of all ages would find something at the stand to enjoy, with Council celebrating everything that’s great about Brisbane.
“There’ll be something for everyone at this year’s stand. You’ll be able to join Team Brisbane by creating your very own model CityCat, learn the art of Origami or even make your very own animal farm hat to take home,” he said.
“You’ll also be able to try your hand at golf with our Victoria Park pop-up Putt Putt course and go into the draw to win one of 10 daily giveaways, with prizes cherry-picked to award lucky winners some of the great adventures and activities to be enjoyed in our New World City.
“I encourage every visiting this year’s Ekka to come on down to the Woolworths Pavilion and see what Council is doing to make our vibrant city a great place to live, work and relax.”
