Brisbane’s budding photographers are being encouraged to grab their cameras to capture and share their best images in celebration of our lifestyle, people and places as part of the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards 2018.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said residents, students and emerging photographers would have the opportunity to submit their original images of Brisbane’s unique character, hidden gems and local features for a chance to a win a share of $14,000 in prizes.
“Brisbane is a great place to live, work and relax, and we want people to have the chance to share what they love about our city through photography,” Cr Quirk said.
“This competition is a great way to capture and share images that reflect some of the more unique sights of our city, with the chance to win some great prizes.
“For the first time this year, as part of the seventh annual Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards, entries can be submitted through Instagram using the tag #LMPA2018.
“Every week professional and hobby photographers share their best ‘views of Brisbane’ and now they’ll have the chance to submit their photos as part of this competition.
“The Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards are open to everyone, from primary school students and amateur photographers through to professional shutterbugs.
“Entries for a student category and an open category will also be accepted, and the public will once again have the chance to nominate and vote for their favourite photos as part of the People’s Choice Award.”
Cr Quirk said the competition continued to grow every year, with more people sharing their favourite images of our city.
“Each year this competition gets bigger and better, with close to 400 entries submitted last year and 2770 people voting for the People’s Choice Award images,” he said.
“With our new social media entry category, I’m expecting even more Brisbane snappers to showcase their creativity through the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.”
Prizes on offer this year include $5000 for the winner of the Open category, $2000 for the Open category first runner-up, $1000 for the Open category second runner-up, $3000 for the Student category and $2000 for the People’s Choice Award.
Photographers have the chance to capture and share their images until Wednesday 8 August 2018.
