Brisbane’s bus drivers are spreading Christmas cheer this December, as part of Brisbane City Council’s annual bus decorating competition.
Chairman for Public and Active Transport Cr Adrian Schrinner inspected the festive buses from each of Council’s seven bus depots, awarding the coveted title to the Virginia Bus Depot.
“Brisbane is packed with Christmas spirit this time of the year, and it’s great to see our bus drivers getting on board by decorating their buses,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Staff from Council’s bus depots at Willawong, Sherwood, Garden City, Carina, Eagle Farm, Toowong and Virginia put in the hard yards to transform their buses into anything from Santa’s Workshop to a winter wonderland.
“It was a tough competition to judge this year, however I’m pleased to announce the Virginia bus has this year come out on top with its beachy Christmas decorations reflecting Brisbane’s true-blue Aussie summer.
“Sherwood and Willawong came in close behind, after being awarded second and third place respectively for their winter wonderland and Starlight Foundation rocket ship-themed decorations.
“Brisbane’s bus drivers are on the front line every day and are some of our city’s most enthusiastic ambassadors.
“I thank them for their ongoing efforts to bring happiness and joy into their passengers’ journeys with their creative and eye-catching designs this festive season.”
Cr Schrinner said the buses would remain decorated to continue spreading cheer across the city during December, as well as joining the nightly tours of the 4KQ Christmas Lights Competition from Monday 18 December.
“From this Monday, through to Friday 22 December, our buses will offer nightly tours of some of Brisbane’s brightest homes entered in the 4KQ Christmas Lights Competition,” he said.
“The bus tours will leave from key locations across the city and take approximately three hours in duration, with refreshment stops included.
